Referentes Rurales con Baku Barrikupel

Te dejamos por aquí nuestro último panel de Referentes Rurales, en el que tuvimos la oportunidad de conversar con Jesús y Amaia, Cofundadores de Baku Barrikupel.

Last Wednesday, October 30th , we returned with our Rural References section and we did so to bring you a very special story from Estella, a town in Navarre.

Jesús and Amaia are rural entrepreneurs, but they are much more than that: they are father and daughter. The passion they both bring to their work is incredible, and their working style is endearing. Amaia is a graduate of the University of Design of La Rioja and holds a Master's degree in design from SHIFTA-Elisava at the Barcelona School of Design. Jesús is a creative craftsman with over 30 years of experience.

They founded Baku Barrikupel , a project that reuses materials that have reached the end of their useful life. They design and manufacture decorative and functional items, applying eco-design principles throughout the entire process. Their products are made one by one in a small artisan workshop. And they do all of this from a rural setting.

What Jesús and Amaia are achieving from this small corner of Navarra is commendable and deserves to be told, so we're getting down to work and leaving you with the recording of this webinar where you can learn more about their story, their work and their passion.

Facilitating generational change

During the webinar, we covered a lot of topics, but one thing that remained clear, apart from the father-daughter bond, is a topic that is not without its challenges in rural Spain: generational change.

Jesús mentioned that he wasn't worried about the succession, since Amaia could perfectly well take over Baku, but he was concerned about finding someone to replace him. This is a debate that's happening in hundreds of businesses right now: on the one hand, there are businesses that close (even though they're 100% profitable) because there's no one to take them over, and on the other hand, there are businesses that risk going under because they can't find qualified professionals to keep them open.

But as they rightly said, let us have faith that among all the people who live in different territories of Spain, one will emerge who can take the place of Jesus and thus continue the magnificent legacy of Baku Barrikupel.
