Article written by Carlos Jonay Suárez.
Almost 4 months ago, on August 3, I published my first words in this blog . On that occasion, and after almost two months of the end of Icod Remote, I did it to talk about how our first experience was, our "pilot episode"
Today, in the middle of December and heading to Christmas holidays, I have to write about our second project: old remote.
Seeing it with perspective, it almost seems impossible to have launched these 2 projects within 2021, and if I am entirely sincere (and based on everything that has happened during these 8 months) I have the feeling that we launched pueblos remotos makes a century and we still don't have a year of life!
Anecdotes of putting in place separately, I will go with what touches me, and it is nothing other than tell you how we spend it in ancient remote, and how the connected rurality remains the link of union of people, and of moments unforgettable.
Ancient remote: this continues to go from people who connect with people
The premise that we set from the beginning with this project is still intact: connect people with each other. In fact, I refer to words that I already used in a previous post: “The initiatives come and go, the projects begin and end, companies open and close. In the end, the difference is made and the people make up. "
And it is that the differential value of remote peoples are the people who are part of it. Alejandro, Gonzalo, Lucía, Luís, Raúl, Rocío, Jana and Jose are now part of the family of villages. They are because of the trust they had in us as a project, for their involvement with the 6 local actors of ancient and for thinking that "another way of doing things" is possible. But, they are, above all, to form a group of incredible people for 21 days.

The group of people does not close with these 8 cracks, since on this occasion we had an added value: the participation of Javi López (Ex-Ceo de Erasmusu) as a mentor. Although in the words of the #antiweers (as we have affectionately `baptized”) Javi was one more during the first 10 days that he could participate in ancient remote.

Javi López, former Erasmusu, participated as a mentor in ancient remote
At this point, I can also add my own personal experience, I join anciently when I had been running for 10 days, and from minute one, I was one more within the family.
Speaking of people, we cannot forget, or from afar, of our 6 local actors, well, 6 if we appoint them as projects:
-
Daniel and Tere, from Vidaloe
-
David, from Casa del Chees Cabrera Pérez
-
Aurora, from Verdeaurora
-
Paula and Felipe, from Flypart Crafts
-
Julio and Belén, from The Animal Academy
-
Malole and David, of the Rural Hotel Era de la Court , together with Flor, from Villa Molino de la Corte.
Each and every one of them opened the doors of their business, and old, with a lot of love and dedication, allowing us to know this corner of the island of Fuerteventura with another point of view.
To do this, we had the opportunity to participate in 6 activities (one by local actor) with which we knew their workplace, what do their business work in their day to day, or how their businesses work from within.
Ancient, a landscape that conveys history and tradition
Among all the things that can mold, or build, an experience, the landscape is for me, one of the most important, and this was not going to be less in the case of ancient.
The municipality of Antigua offers a picturesque and different landscape, from its characteristic mills, desert landscapes, lava casts, black sand beaches or salt flats of a pure white, to 19th -century houses with a lot of history, such as the era of the cut.
One of the characteristic mills of the municipality of Antigua
The Rural Hotel Era de la Court, together with the Molino Villa de la Corte, was the “Old Remote Operations Center». A completely familiar and close environment, where we could literally feel at home.
To this is also joined that the way in which we met ancient was completely different, since we did it through activities proposed by local actors:
-
Knowing a very important plant for the island such as Aloe, as well as the variety of products and uses it has.
-
Know how permaculture works, especially on an island that has a shortage of water resources such as Fuerteventura.
-
Learn to make a 'pella' of gofio and taste it with a rich 'potato de berros' made locally, providing with a rich display of gofio at the end.
-
Observe and understand how a shelter of farm animals works, which have been rescued from abuse and abandonment on the island to give them a second chance.
-
Know the stars and constellations that we can see in the Majorero night sky during this time of year.
-
Prepare with our own hands a one hundred -out leather wallet and unique.
-
Understand how milking works and the process of production of the Majorero cheese in the first person.
Undoubtedly, ancient remote has meant "another way" of seeing, feeling and savoring a local landscape.

In addition to the way of living the municipality, we also want to give them a huge thank you, through this post, to our sponsors for everything they have contributed so that this has been a reality: Tourism of Tourism of Fuerteventura , Ancient City Council and Cicar .
A 'chute' of energy to move on
For us (and now I customize this message on the name of the team) ancient remote has meant a chute of energy, that without a doubt.
After the months of preparation, the nerves, the time to start and above all to live the experience, we are even clearer to 'why we do this.
We do it because connected rurality is something fundamental in today's world, connection between people, weaving networks, building bridges and above all, living these experiences, are one of the best legacies that any project can leave.
