Written article Carlos Jonay Suárez , co -founder and responsible for digital strategy in remote villages.
In the first article that I wrote about 'The Break' in our blog ( 'The Break', breaking molds from the rural environment ), I was not aware, or from far, of everything that would happen to us during these 24 days of activity ( And what activity!) In Agaete.
The other day we commented again Elsa and I (co -founders of pueblos remotos) that we are not entirely aware of what we have achieved with this project, especially in terms of human connections, can there be anything more rewarding than that? But today I am not going to write you about this, that is something that we reserve for a little later, perhaps accompanied by some 'surprise'.
In today's article and taking advantage of human connections, I want to talk to you about the 'closure' of the first stage of 'The Break' 2022 in Agaete, and put closed in quotes, because I doubt that this was the closing of nothing, but rather , the beginning of much.
This closure was represented by: Women Entrepreneur International Networking , an event that we co-organize with proxca and that served as a final climax for all the learning, experiences and adventures that we live between September 28 and October 23 in the municipality of Agaete (On the island of Gran Canaria)
An event for and for female entrepreneurship
Whenever you plan an event, doubts arise: will it be interesting? Are we organizing the day and the right time? Are we having everything necessary? It is normal and that is part of the 'game'
The truth is that when we began to co-organize the Women Entrepreneur International Networking, all those doubts and some more arose, but once the result of it has seen, we can only be proud of one hundred percent of having done it.
Panel in which we have the intervention of Proexca and the SPEGC. From left to right: Elsa Rodríguez, Guillermo Quintana and Carla Velayos.
The event was designed from a moment to highlight female entrepreneurship, and more specifically, that female talent that has managed to internationalize, which is in the process of doing so, or simply, that they feel interest for it.
Above the Palermo workshop , an incredible space of events and coworking, located in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, different proposals were presented. We were able to have two panels:
-
Canary Islands: The Best Destination to Attract and Retain Talent From Europe - in which they intervened:
-
Carla Velayos Morales , on behalf of Proexca .
-
Guillermo Quintana Ramos , representing the Economic Promotion Society of Gran Canaria (SPEGC)
-
We have the participation, via streaming, by Lucía Dobarro Delgado , on behalf of the Technological Institute of the Canary Islands (ITC)
-
-
Inspiring Women Entrepreneurs Stories - With the second panel we had the opportunity to listen to the inspired stories of the entrepreneurs:
-
Kim de Coster , founder of Slow & CO .
-
Sara Cruz Aduna , co -founder of Nanue Brand .
-
Jo Hendrickx , founder of Travel Without Plastic .
-
Lara Hernandez Rodriguez , co -founder of tomorrow .
-
Both panels were loaded with very good energy, answering questions of interest, linked, for example, with how institutions support local talent when it comes to internationalizing, or what resources are active for the attraction of international talent to the Canary Islands . The second panel, on the other hand, was more focused on knowing what were the main challenges when undertaking or what advice would give other entrepreneurs to start undertaking.

The moment of our Breakers
But, not everything were panels within the event, we also have a time for our breakrs, well, some of them, will perform a two -minute elevator
Jnela, Shari, Eleonora, Ioana, Martina, Hannah and Fatima , developed luxuryly on stage, presenting and defending their projects with a lot of quality, despite the nerves. Of course, and although they did not take the stage, we want to take advantage to thank all the work and effort that Lucie, Andra and Talia , always supporting each other, and that if we can say something of this wonderful group of people, it is that have been a pineapple during the 24 days that we have lived together.
For this reason, we want to take the opportunity to leave you the projects of all of them:

A moment to create
In addition to the panels and the Pitch Elevator , we also had a time to create. Through four work tables, we were able to work together with all the attendees, to answer the questions:
-
How to Attract More Women Entrepreneurs to The Canary Islands?
-
How to Support More Women to Internationalize Their Businesses?
After 45 minutes of work, debate and exchange of ideas, we were able to know the conclusions of each of the work tables from the stage.
Detail of entrepreneurial tables working on challenges
Is there better climax than the presentation of a joint work? Yes, a final photo where you can see the representation of the local and international entrepreneurship present in the Canary Islands, and how could it be otherwise, we also have a pecking and networking space, where to speak quietly tasting a rich food prepared by Palermo workshops.
Expectations overcome
The result? 50 attendees, a lot of shared knowledge, meet incredible people and communities, as would the famous coffee announcement say ... What Else?
Our expectations were not only met, but they far exceeded. But, obviously, all this has not only been our merit, so we want to take advantage to thank all the people who have made it possible:
-
Carla Velayos Morales (Proexca)
-
Guillermo Quintana Ramos (SPEGC)
-
Lucía Dobarro Delgado (ITC)
-
Kim de Coster (Slow & Co)
-
Sara Cruz Aduna (Nanue Brand)
-
Jo Hendrickx (Travel Without Plastic)
-
Lara Hernandez Rodriguez (Tomorrow)
-
Ángel Campillo (Palermo workshops)
-
To all our Breakers: Jnela, Shari, Eleonora, Ioana, Martina, Hannah, Lucie, Talia, Andra and Fatima.
-
To all those people who helped us spread the event and that will reach the maximum possible number of people.
For our part, we are preparing for the second part of 'The Break', where we will receive from November 3 to 28 to 11 new breakers that are loaded with energy and illusion.
